CROWN CLEANING

Removal of dead, dying, broken, diseased, low vigor, and competing branches and water sprouts. Most pruning of mature trees falls under this category.

CROWN REDUCTION

Reducing the overall size of the tree by using reduction cuts to remove larger branches back to smaller branches. Because crown reductions can  predispose a branch or trunk to internal decay,  crown reductions should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

CROWN THINNING

The selective removal of smaller branches in the upper/outer canopy of the tree using thinning cuts. Crown thinning requires a high degree of skill and training and should only be done by a certified arborist. Crown thinning is labor intensive when done correctly and can be expensive.
Three benefits are: #1)minimizing damage potential caused by snow loading, the primary factor leading to tree failures in Colorado. Crown thinning reduces limb weight, thus the limbs may better withstand heavy snow events. #2) Crown thinning increases light penetration into the tree interior which can invigorate the tree. #3) crown thinning may be used to improve or open a view. Done correctly it will not impact the tree structurally. Often called vista pruning.

HAZARD PRUNING

This focuses on reducing potential tree failures related to structural weaknesses. It is a combination of crown cleaning and crown thinning and may be used in concert with other methods like cabling or bolting. Hazard pruning can stabilize a tree and/or reduce its potential to cause harm.

CROWN RAISING

Removal or reduction of lower branches to provide clearance for people, traffic, buildings, or a view. Often, neglected trees have large primary branches lower than is desired. We are experts in addressing this kind of problem, using methods that will not impact the tree negatively nor leave unsightly scars that can potentially invite decay.

STORM DAMAGE

Once the initial damage to the tree has been assessed, the restoration process may span several years. Focus will be on restoring structural integrity, shape and vigor.  It is wise to begin this process knowing up front it may take several years to bring the tree back to health. Return visits within a year may be required to manage water sprout blooms and other undesirable growth characteristics. It is well worth the commitment, as the tree may recover fully,  becoming a valuable asset offering shade, aesthetic appeal and increasing property value.
